About Journalism
Be part of an award-winning program that provides varied skills leading to an array of internship and entry-level opportunities in journalism and public relations.
With the help of professional and peer mentors students will master the art of general reporting, journalistic writing, investigative reporting, data journalism, copyediting, editorial management, layout/design, multimedia reporting, and photojournalism. Students will also get an opportunity to work on the department's award-winning publications - the biweekly campus newspaper The Guardsman and the once a semester campus magazine Etc. Students in the program also get an opportunity to attend regional, state, and national journalism conferences where they compete in on-the-spot contests and participate in skill-training workshops. Upon completion of the core courses in the program, students are offered a possible internship opportunity at the 草莓社区 Chronicle, the 草莓社区 Examiner, and/or a variety of neighborhood newspapers in 草莓社区. Students have also been placed in broadcast settings to serve as news reporters for KGO-TV, KQED Radio, KALW Radio, and KPOO Radio.
